About Padum
Padum, located in the Zanskar region of Ladakh, is a small but stunning town that serves as the administrative headquarters of the Zanskar Subdivision. As a resident of this remote and rugged region, life in Padum is characterized by its harsh climate and rugged terrain, but also by the unique culture and way of life of the Zanskaris.
The Zanskar region, of which Padum is a part, is known for its pristine natural beauty, with towering mountains, crystal-clear rivers, and vast glaciers. The region is home to a diverse array of wildlife, including the elusive snow leopard, Himalayan ibex, and Tibetan antelope.

The people of Padum and the Zanskar region are primarily of Tibetan descent and follow a unique blend of Buddhism and Bon, an indigenous animistic religion. Their lifestyle is heavily influenced by the harsh climate and the difficult terrain, with subsistence agriculture and animal husbandry being the primary means of livelihood.

Despite its remote location, Padum and the Zanskar region have a rich cultural heritage, with several ancient monasteries and temples dotting the landscape. These religious institutions serve as centers for learning and meditation for the local people and attract tourists from around the world.

As a resident of Padum, I have learned to appreciate the simple pleasures of life in this rugged region, including the warmth and hospitality of the local people, the breathtaking natural beauty, and the unique cultural traditions. It is a place where the ancient and the modern coexist, where tradition and progress intertwine, and where the spirit of adventure and exploration is always present.
